We are delighted that we can announce new and brand new events:

This year the City Nature Challenge will again take place in Vienna from 24th to 27th April.
12 cities and regions in Austria will participate in the run for the highest account of species records!

Vienna, an extraordinarily species rich city, is also taking part again this year. The City of Vienna will act as an supporter of the City Nature Challenge.
The campaign is organized by the Natural History Museum Vienna, administrated by Nikolaus Szucsich, Lorin Timaeus and Christoph Leeb!

ABOL-BioBlitzes 2026 at the Days of Biodiversity

The dates of the Days of Biodiversity 2026 have been set. ABOL will participate again with BioBlitzes and will offer the opportunity to have DNA barcodes created from collected organisms.

On 17th &18th September 2026 ABOL & partners invite you to participate in a two-day symposium regarding theory and practical implementation on the topic (e)DNA metabarcoding at the Natural History Museum Vienna! The conference language is german only!!

On the first day, there will be presentations on various topics related to (e)DNA metabarcoding and its application, followed by a panel discussion. We are delighted to announce that Bernd Hänfling from the University of the Highlands and Islands (UK) will be our keynote speaker!
The second day will be devoted to practical implementation, with a hands-on workshop on bioinformatic analysis and a focus on the interpretation of metabarcoding data.
All interested parties are welcome to attend! Take advantage of this opportunity—there are still a few places available for the workshop!
