RefDat - the new ABOL project! Call to join in!
We would like to repeat our offer of cooperation to everyone with whom we have not yet had contact!
In short, the project is about creating DNA barcode references for animal, plant and fungal species that occur in Austria. The focus is on pollinators, soil and aquatic organisms, as well as closing data gaps. The project is made up of modules that are awarded to project partners by means of work contracts. There are two options: (1) taxonomic work contract: the partner delivers tissue samples from 95 individuals (= 1 module), which are identified on species level, documented and photographed and then stored in a scientific collection (e.g. NHM Vienna or a State Museum). The sequencing is carried out by ABOL or (2) the partner provides the completed DNA barcode references. The specimen used can either be freshly collected (a valid collection permit is mandatory) or taken from an existing collection (should be relatively young).

ABOL goes into the next round - start of the 3rd phase of the ABOL coordination project
We are very pleased to announce that the ABOL coordination project has been granted for another 3 years and is gratefully continued to be funded by the Ministry of Education, Science and Research. This enables us to continue our commitment to recording biodiversity together with our partners. At this point we would like to thank everyone who has been involved in ABOL for many years and who works together to fill the reference database or who has already carried out applied projects. We are also pleased about the many “old” and “new” partners who are taking part in the biodiversity fund projects that have recently started. It is still our concern to bring the biodiversity community closer together and expand it and to support our partners in terms of communication, information and public relations. The ABOL coordination also represents the Austrian initiative internationally and in European matters. We are continuing to initiate projects and generate ideas. We hope for active participation from the community!
